COLUMBUS, OH – A man is on the mend after a harrowing shooting incident on a highway in central Ohio. Authorities have arrested Wayne Pittman, charging him with felonious assault following the event that unfolded on I-70 West earlier today.
Jesse Morris, the victim, recounted his ordeal, which began as he was en route to a chemotherapy appointment. He remembers being overtaken by another vehicle in the emergency lane and thought nothing of it until the other driver slowed down, eventually pulling alongside him and opening fire. Morris was struck, leaving him with a wound to his lower jaw and shrapnel embedded in his face, necessitating further surgery.
Despite his injuries, Morris managed to drive a few miles further, attempting to distance himself from his assailant. He finally pulled over near Haig Avenue, where he sought help. The police subsequently closed parts of the highway as they combed the area for evidence.
Speaking about the incident, Morris expressed disbelief over what he termed as a senseless act of violence. “There was no road rage from my side,” he said, recalling the moment the other driver fired at his car. The thought of his daughter potentially being in the car with him was particularly distressing, as she often accompanies him on drives.
This random act of violence has left Morris shaken, yet grateful that the outcome wasn’t worse. His doctors emphasized that the bullet narrowly missed critical areas by mere inches or even millimeters, underscoring the narrow escape.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, piecing together evidence to understand what led to such an unprovoked attack. Meanwhile, Morris is left to grapple with the aftermath and the daunting prospect of another surgery.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is left to ponder the growing concern of highway violence and its implications for everyday commuters. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of road safety.
