Homeless Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Assaulting Grandmother

Mowngly Lucas, 32, has been sentenced to 20 years. His prison was given as a result of sexually assaulting a 59-year-old woman in the early morning of November 18, 2018, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

Lucas approached the woman from behind, put her in a chokehold, and raped her in two different locations before sexually abusing and raping her again in a white commercial van parked on Parkside Avenue. The attack took place near Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

Lucas was convicted on December 15, 2022, following a jury trial on charges of first-degree rape. He was also charged with burglary, robbery, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal mischief.

The defendant was living in a Queens homeless shelter at the time of his arrest. Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Heidi Cesare sentenced Lucas to 20 years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision. In addition to this, he will have to register as a sex offender once he is released from prison.

According to the District Attorney’s office, Lucas put the victim in a chokehold and threatened her with a gun and a knife at around 5 a.m. on November 18, 2018. She was walking on Parkside Avenue at Parade Place before the incident took place.

The suspect was arrested by detectives that were assigned to the case during an in-depth investigation.
