POMPANO BEACH, FL – A family is seeking justice after a tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a beloved son and brother. Joey Henriquez, 40, was killed while walking his bicycle home in the early hours of October 12.
The incident occurred on the 2600 block of North Palm Aire Drive, just a short distance from Henriquez’s residence. According to police, Henriquez was struck by a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Sholom Marcus, who initially fled the scene.
Henriquez was rushed to the hospital with a severe brain injury and was later pronounced dead. Authorities reported that Marcus returned to the scene briefly before leaving again.
Marcus was arrested and is facing charges for fleeing the crash. During a bond court appearance, he admitted to being the driver and disclosed that he had consumed alcohol at three bars in Delray Beach prior to the accident.
The victim’s family is devastated and demanding accountability. Henriquez’s sister expressed her anguish, questioning why Marcus left her brother on the road and urging him to take responsibility for his actions.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses. They are appealing to the community for support during this challenging time.
The family’s grief is compounded by the circumstances of the incident, which took place in an area Henriquez frequented. They are determined to see justice served for their loved one.
