Upon purchasing a house in Ohio, a man discovered the previous owner’s body decomposing in the basement.
According to FOX 8, the unidentified man called police at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday after finding a body in his new Cleveland Heights home.
Police responded to the 2700 block of Noble Road property, found the body, and transported it to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office, Cleveland Heights Director of Communications Mike Thomas said.
Nina Fielden, 71, who previously owned the house, was identified as the victim.
In this case, the new owner acquired the property at a sheriff’s sale.
In an interview with 3News, Thomas explained how the person who found Fielden’s body told detectives he recently purchased the home through Cuyahoga County through a sheriff’s sale. “He had gone to the site to check on it,” Thomas said.
The medical examiner found no signs of trauma on the body. The cause of death was not yet determined.
There is no immediate explanation as to why the body was not discovered before the home purchase was completed.
Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
