WAXAHACHIE, TX – On Saturday afternoon, a 21-year-old man tragically drowned while trying to rescue a teenage girl in distress at Lake Waxahachie. The Waxahachie Police Department confirmed that authorities were on the scene around 12:45 p.m. following a reported drowning.
Responding officers discovered that the young man, identified as Lincer Lopez by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, had been trying to save the distressed teenager when he himself drowned. Some of Lopez’s family and friends revealed that he was at the lake for his baptism.
According to witnesses, after the baptism concluded, some of the church members were enjoying the water when a teenage girl within the group began to struggle. Without hesitation, Lopez rushed to her aid. A passing boater managed to pull the girl from the water and successfully revived her with CPR, but Lopez was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Lopez had been eagerly looking forward to his baptism, according to his uncle Jacobo Lopez. The young man’s heroic actions and selflessness have been recognized by his family and the community. He was known for his hardworking nature, was employed in construction, and often sent money back to his siblings in Mexico.
To assist Lopez’s family with sending his body back to Mexico for final respects, a GoFundMe was created.
