HOUSTON, TX – In a shocking turn of events, a dispute over $20 led to a fatal shooting near the Gulfton area in southwest Houston. The incident occurred late last night on Chimney Rock, where a popular Honduran food truck was stationed.
Despite the tragedy, the food truck reopened just 24 hours after the incident. An employee, who chose to remain anonymous, shared that her mother was working at the time of the shooting. “She didn’t see what happened because she was cooking, but the gunshots made her drop to the floor in terror,” she said.
Houston police reported that the victim encountered three individuals who were asking for $20. He assured them he would get the money and went to a nearby apartment but returned with a pistol instead. Although he pointed the gun at the suspects, he did not fire. The suspects, however, were armed and shot him, resulting in his death.
“It’s devastating to think someone was killed over such a small amount,” the employee commented. Surveillance video from a nearby gas station allegedly shows the suspects. One of them was seen approaching the food truck, which was out of the camera’s view, and quickly returned with two others. The trio fled the scene in a car, heading west on Elm Street after the shooting.
Alejandro Mendoza Garcia, a friend of the victim, expressed his grief and anger. “I can never forgive them, but I hope God can,” he said. Garcia described his friend as a loving father and a hardworking man who was always ready to help others. “They took his life, and there’s nothing I can do about it,” he added, his voice filled with sorrow.
As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the senseless loss and hoping for justice.
