Sheriff’s detectives said the shooting involved a married couple and was being investigated as an apparent attempted murder-suicide.
MIAMI, FL — A man was found dead and his wife was critically injured after a shooting at a Southwest Miami-Dade home late Thursday, authorities said, prompting a homicide investigation into what officials described as a domestic-related incident.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in the 19200 block of Southwest 376th Street on May 1, 2025, after receiving a report of a shooting. Deputies found a man and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to information released by authorities and reported by local news organizations.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the woman by air to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Authorities said a gun was found near the man’s body.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the incident as domestic-related and said the two people were husband and wife. Investigators had not publicly determined who fired the weapon when the initial reports were released, and authorities did not announce a motive.
The Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau took over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials had not released the couple’s names in their initial account, and no additional information about what happened inside the home was immediately available from law enforcement.
Local 10 News reported that neighbors identified the couple as Karla Toscano and Javier Perez. That identification came from neighbors rather than from an official Sheriff’s Office announcement at the time of the report.
CBS News Miami reported that several neighbors said the couple had moved into the home recently. One neighbor also said the woman had three children and that a family member picked them up after the shooting. Those details were based on neighbor accounts and were not independently confirmed by investigators in the reports reviewed.
Authorities continued to characterize the case as an apparent attempted murder-suicide investigation while leaving key questions unresolved, including who fired the shots and the events that immediately preceded the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office did not announce any criminal charges in the initial reports.
The Homicide Bureau remained responsible for the investigation, and no later official update establishing the full sequence of events was located in the sources reviewed for this article.
