RIVERSIDE, CA – A shocking high-speed collision in Riverside has resulted in the death of a man and left a community searching for answers. The crash, which occurred at a busy intersection, involved multiple vehicles and was caught on video, now central to a police investigation.
The incident unfolded just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Market and 6th Street. A black Dodge Charger, reportedly driven recklessly, slammed into a Honda Civic, causing a devastating chain reaction. The driver of the Civic, identified as 37-year-old Christian, was tragically killed. He was en route to his family’s restaurant, stepping in for a sick coworker, according to his brother.
The video of the crash, which has surfaced on social media, shows the Charger speeding and crashing into the Civic, which then collided with oncoming traffic. This footage is now a crucial piece of evidence as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
The suspect, 19-year-old Isaac Isaiah Valba, was apprehended after attempting to flee the scene. Officers had to use a taser to subdue him, as shown in the video. Valba faces charges including murder, felony hit and run, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest with violence. He was seen in a booking photo still wearing a hospital gown.
Five other individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were taken to local hospitals. The Riverside Police Department is urging anyone with information, particularly those who claim to have seen the Charger driving erratically before the crash, to come forward.
The family of the victim released a statement expressing their profound grief and gratitude for the support they have received. “Our family is heartbroken and devastated by the loss of our beloved brother,” the statement read.
Valba is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment, with bail set at $1 million. As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, grappling with the senselessness of the incident.
Authorities are working tirelessly to gather evidence, including cell phone videos and witness testimonies, to ensure that justice is served for Christian and his family.
