GLENDALE, AZ – Amid shocking circumstances, Glendale police took a 25-year-old man into custody on Friday afternoon linked to the beheading of his mother. The arrest of Alejandro Gonzalez ensued after a police welfare check revealed their shared apartment saturated with blood. Court records indicate the victim, identified as 49-year-old Teresa De Jesus Cruz Rubio, was found concealed under a blanket with her decapitated body bearing multiple stab wounds.
Family members raised concerns after Cruz Rubio did not attend a family gathering intended to celebrate her birthday on Saturday, leading them to believe something was amiss. Relatives stated they believed Gonzalez resided with Cruz Rubio in the aforementioned apartment.
In a noteworthy twist, Gonzalez’s arrest for his mother’s murder occurred less than 24 hours after his release from jail on unrelated charges, according to information from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. He was previously arrested and held for criminal damage, a felony charge. However, the case was returned to Phoenix police to gather more evidence.
Upon apprehending Gonzalez, officers made note of the dried blood on his clothing. During questioning, the suspect alleged that he and an unidentified man he met locally were smoking drugs together before the man initiated the fatal assault on his mother. Gonzalez admitted to using a knife on Cruz Rubio as well.
Although Gonzalez has implicated a second party in the crime, Glendale police report they have yet to uncover any evidence supporting another individual’s involvement. The investigation into the crime is still ongoing, and Gonzalez now faces charges of murder and theft.
