Man armed with knife shot dead by police

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL – A man was fatally shot by police on Friday afternoon in the quiet suburban area of Elk Grove Village. Officers were called to a residence located on the 200 block of Fern Drive at 4:27 p.m., following reports of a man with a knife. According to Elk Grove Village police Deputy Chief Christopher Torres, the man left the house with the knife and confronted officers in a nearby yard.

In the ensuing encounter, police shot the man who was later declared dead at a local hospital. Initial reports suggest the man was shot at least four times in the chest. Three officers involved in the incident were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

While police were yet to disclose the identity of the man, or whether he lived at the scene of the incident, they confirmed having responded to the location in the past. Residents of the neighborhood were left shocked and concerned at the significant police presence and the unfolding investigation.

“What happened? You know, is it somebody who lives in the neighborhood? Is it something we should be concerned about?” asked local resident Barb Labellarte.

The circumstances that triggered the shooting remained unclear, as Deputy Chief Torres explained, stating that the confrontation’s specifics were part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing danger. Meanwhile, Elk Grove Village police have initiated a criminal investigation into the incident, working alongside the Major Case Assistance Team, a regional task force.
