MIAMI BEACH, FL – A Miami Beach man accused of killing his mother appeared in court today, where a judge upheld a decision to deny him bond. Anthony Caruso, 40, faces a murder charge for the alleged stabbing of his mother, whose body was found in the trash chute of his apartment building over the weekend.
Caruso, who has a history of legal troubles, also violated probation from two previous cases. His legal issues began on May 30, 2024, when he had an altercation with a Miami police officer. Body camera footage captured the incident, which started when another man flagged down the officer for assistance. Caruso admitted to spitting on the man, claiming self-defense after the man allegedly tried to hit him.
Following this incident, Caruso was convicted of battery and sentenced to three years of probation. However, just two months later, he was arrested again for a series of offenses, including arson and aggravated assault.
Surveillance footage from North Bayshore Drive in Edgewater showed Caruso setting a restaurant’s outdoor furniture on fire. He was later seen fleeing the scene. On the same day, Caruso reportedly threatened another individual with a hammer, leading to further charges of battery and criminal mischief.
Despite these incidents, Caruso was placed on probation once more. Now, nearly a year later, he faces the grave charge of murder. The judge’s decision to deny bond reflects the severity of the accusations against him.
Caruso remains in custody at the Miami-Dade County Jail. He is scheduled to make another court appearance soon, as the legal process unfolds.
