The woman’s 10-year-old son called 911 after fleeing the home during the domestic dispute, according to an arrest affidavit.
TAMARAC, FL — A 45-year-old Broward County man was jailed after deputies accused him of threatening and assaulting his girlfriend during a domestic dispute and resisting officers who came to arrest him.
William Adam Lamkin was arrested Tuesday on charges of domestic assault, domestic battery and resisting an officer with violence, jail records show. The investigation began after the woman’s 10-year-old son ran from the home and called 911, according to an arrest affidavit cited by WPLG-TV.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. to a home near the 9900 block of Red Heart Lane in Tamarac. The original call was described as a suspicious incident involving the boy, according to the affidavit.
The child told investigators that his mother had returned home before she and Lamkin began arguing. The dispute later became physical, he said. The boy told deputies that he called for help after his mother said Lamkin had grabbed her clothing and threatened to kill her.
The woman told deputies that she had been shopping at a Publix supermarket when Lamkin sent her several text messages asking where she was and demanding that she return home. When she arrived and parked her vehicle, Lamkin walked behind it and ordered her to go inside, the affidavit states.
She told investigators that Lamkin pushed her against the driver’s seat and punched her in the arm. According to the affidavit, he threatened to strike her again depending on how she answered a question. Deputies did not disclose what he had asked.
Neighbors tried to intervene before Lamkin walked back toward the home, investigators said. The woman and her son also returned to the residence, where deputies said Lamkin continued yelling. The frightened boy then ran from the house, followed by his mother.
The woman told deputies that law enforcement officers had responded to the home during previous incidents. When asked whether she believed Lamkin would act on his alleged threats, she said she did. She also asked the deputies not to leave because she feared he would return, according to the affidavit.
Lamkin returned while deputies were still at the home and denied doing anything wrong, investigators said. Authorities accused him of walking aggressively toward the deputies and taking a fighting stance. Deputies said they used necessary measures to take him into custody, though the available report did not describe those actions in detail.
Lamkin was taken to a hospital for an evaluation before he was booked into the Broward County Main Jail. A booking photograph showed one of his eyes swollen shut, but authorities had not said how or when the injury occurred.
As of Friday morning, Lamkin remained in jail with bond set at $32,500. A judge ordered house arrest and prohibited him from contacting the woman or her son. He was also barred from possessing firearms, other weapons or ammunition. The charges are allegations, and court records reviewed in the available reporting did not show that the case had been resolved.
