ARLINGTON, TX – A Dallas Cowboys fan and his wife found themselves at the center of a terrifying incident during their inaugural visit to AT&T Stadium. This outing, meant to be a memorable experience for Wenceslao Gonzalez, a devoted Cowboys supporter, quickly turned into a nightmare on September 22. His wife, Lindsey, along with their daughter, had surprised him with tickets to watch the team face off against the Baltimore Ravens, but the evening took a dark turn following the game.
The family’s evening soured when they encountered a heated argument in the parking lot. A man was seen verbally assaulting a young woman, and Lindsey, reminded of her own daughter, felt compelled to intervene. Wenceslao stepped forward to mediate, leading to a confrontation with the man, later identified as Rafael Antonio Ramirez, aged 32.
The situation rapidly escalated when Ramirez struck Wenceslao in the face. Lindsey’s attempt to defuse the altercation resulted in her being punched unconscious. According to Arlington Police, Ramirez allegedly continued the assault by kicking Lindsey while she lay defenseless on the ground.
Lindsey suffered extensive injuries, including 12 fractures around her left eye, cheek, and nose, along with a broken jaw, necessitating surgery on September 24. Wenceslao also sustained injuries, including a fractured foot, as detailed by their daughter Emma on a GoFundMe page established to assist with their medical expenses.
The aftermath of the assault has been devastating for the Gonzalez family, both physically and financially, as both Lindsey and Wenceslao have been unable to return to work. Ramirez was apprehended and charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, though he was released on bail from Tarrant County Jail on September 23. The nature of his relationship with the woman involved in the dispute remains unknown.
Lindsey has voiced her wish for justice, emphasizing that while she harbors no ill will, she believes Ramirez should be held accountable for his actions. The incident has left an indelible mark on the family, instilling fear and uncertainty about attending future games at the stadium.
In the aftermath, the family has raised questions about the security measures in place at the stadium, criticizing the delayed response from law enforcement. This incident is part of a troubling pattern of violence at the venue, following a notorious altercation between Jets and Cowboys fans the previous year.
