Officers heard a gunshot while approaching the east valley home after a woman reported being attacked by her boyfriend.
LAS VEGAS, NV — A man and woman were found dead inside an east Las Vegas Valley home early Saturday after officers responded to a domestic violence call and heard a gunshot as they approached, police said.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide. Police have not released the couple’s names, ages or other identifying details, and investigators have not announced a possible motive.
Police received a call for service at about 3:30 a.m. from a woman who reported that her boyfriend had battered her with a firearm, according to information released during a department briefing. Officers were sent to a residence in the 5000 block of Haystack Drive, near Whitney Library.
As officers neared the home, they heard what appeared to be a gunshot coming from inside, police said. Officers entered the residence and found the man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel were called to the scene, but both people were pronounced dead at the home. Police said no other occupants were found inside the residence, and investigators have not indicated that anyone else is being sought in connection with the deaths.
Lt. Robert Price said investigators believe the case was a murder-suicide. Authorities have not publicly described the sequence of the shootings or said who they believe fired the weapon.
The initial call and the reported assault are expected to form part of the homicide investigation. Detectives will also examine physical evidence from the home, the responding officers’ observations and available emergency communications as they work to confirm what happened.
The Clark County coroner’s office is responsible for identifying the two people and determining their official causes and manners of death. Those findings had not been released as of Saturday.
The investigation remains active, and police asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the department’s homicide investigators.
