Horrendous accident claims five on Thanksgiving

MOULTRIE, GA – A devastating vehicular accident near Moultrie, Georgia, on Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of five individuals, including a toddler. The incident, which involved a van and a pickup truck, also left five other people severely injured.

The fatal collision took place on Georgia 111, about eight miles southwest of Moultrie. A Ford van, carrying a group of adults and children to a Thanksgiving event, was heading south when it met with a head-on collision with a northbound Dodge Ram pickup.

The victims were identified as Emiliano Martinez Ramon (58), Anna Leticia Rodriquez (61), Jose Moreno (72), Herlinda Sel-Choc (25), and Anderson Arial Sel (3). Sel-Choc was confirmed as the mother of Sel, but the familial connections of the other victims remain unclear.

Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock, who has witnessed numerous accidents throughout his career, referred to the incident as “a horrendous accident” and considered it a “miracle that anyone survived.”

This fatal accident was part of a grim day on Georgia’s roads, with a total of 14 lives lost on Thanksgiving Day. Two more fatalities occurred on Interstate 16 near East Dublin due to a head-on collision involving a Nissan Altima and a Honda Pilot.
