Hit-And-Run Suspect Shot By Police Officer

A hit-and-run and chase took place outside King of Prussia Mall on Sunday, authorities said. During the chase, an officer shot Andrew Wiley, 27. The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. near Seasons 52’s parking lot on North Gulph Road.

It is now being reported that the 27-year-old suspect has been charged with attempted murder of an officer.

The Upper Merion Township Police Department announced in a release that officers were notified about a hit-and-run near Green Deck at King of Prussia Mall. The woman that was a victim of the hit-and-run is not seriously injured.

The police said a bike officer found Wiley’s red Nissan Juke in the Green Deck, but he fled at a high speed. He got stuck in traffic when he tried to exit the King of Prussia Mall parking lot near the Seasons 52 exit near North Gulph Road.

Wiley tried to escape again after police pulled up behind his vehicle, authorities said. When the man saw police, he turned right, jumped a curb, drove into the Seasons 52 parking lot and crashed into a 4-foot stone wall, resulting in his vehicle becoming disabled.

A police release said that an officer exited his vehicle and approached Wiley’s car on foot, armed with a 9mm handgun.

The officer and Wiley both discharged their weapons, but only Wiley was hit. He was shot at least twice in the legs. His injuries were not life-threatening and he was taken to Paoli Hospital.

Many mall patrons said they were shocked that the incident occurred so close to Christmas.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Detective Bureau are investigating the shooting. The officer who fired their firearm is put on administrative leave according to Upper Merion Department policy.
