HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Law enforcement authorities are on the lookout for a hit-and-run driver who allegedly ran a stop sign and consequently ended the life of a 10-year-old boy who was cycling on the streets in northwest Harris County. The event unfolded on July 4, shortly before 11 p.m., near Windy Stone Drive and Concord Green Drive.
According to the Harris County sheriff’s deputies, the misfortunate event unfolded as an SUV was heading north on Concord Green Drive, and the young boy was traveling west on Windy Stone Drive. The driver of the SUV reportedly went past a stop sign, fatally striking the boy on his bike before fleeing the scene without offering any aid.
The young boy, identified as Mohammad Hussain Khel, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses reported seeing the bicycle stuck beneath the SUV even as the driver fled.
Police officials believe that bike eventually got dislodged when the driver left it behind on Old Greenhouse Road, about half a mile from the scene. Only a vague description of a dark-colored SUV is available of the hit-and-run vehicle at this point.
HCSO officials are combing through the area for potential evidence and video footage. Local residents are also being urged to verify their security camera footage. Anyone possessing relevant information or video footage is encouraged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
