High school teacher dies in shooting

CHALCO, Neb. – In the midst of an unimaginable tragedy, Rebecca Geiger’s family endeavors to celebrate the life of a cherished daughter, sister, and friend. Known as Becky to those close to her, she was a beloved special education teacher at Westside High School and an adored member of her family and community.

This profound loss unfolded early Monday morning when authorities reported that Becky was fatally shot by her husband, Rory Geiger, in their home. Rory also died during the incident, though the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

Sheriff Jeff Davis shared that Rory fired shots upon police arrival, leading to officers returning gunfire. While investigations continue, it remains uncertain whether Rory’s death resulted from the officers’ bullets or if it was self-inflicted.

The Geiger family acknowledged the turmoil within the household, though Becky had refrained from sharing details, expressing a desire to keep her family intact. Despite no reports of physical abuse, Becky endured emotional and psychological torment, as described by her family.

Cindy recounted her concerns for Becky’s well-being, encouraging her to leave the situation. However, Becky chose to remain, a decision her family struggles to understand but respects.

For Jayden, her nephew, Becky was more than family; she was a best friend and godmother, leaving him feeling deeply hurt by the void her passing left behind. The loss is compounded by the actions the family indicates were rooted in psychological abuse, leading to this ultimate heartbreaking outcome.

The incident also deeply affected Becky’s daughters, who witnessed the traumatic events, a reality Cindy fears will hauntingly linger in their young lives. Jayden expressed anger over the lack of justice and resolution in such tragic incidents.
