BROCKTON, MA – A horrifying scene unfolded at a Brockton hibachi restaurant, captured in a surveillance video released by local authorities. The video depicts the tragic moment when 22-year-old Joe Araujo was shot and killed on Friday at the Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office released the video on Saturday, showing a suspect, clad in a hoodie, making a beeline for Araujo’s booth. The unsettling footage also reveals the presence of families and children in the restaurant during the incident.
Pandemonium broke out in the aftermath of the shooting, with patrons seen scrambling to exit the restaurant or seeking shelter under tables. Araujo was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital but was declared dead shortly after arrival.
Police are of the opinion that Araujo was the specific target of the attack, as suggested by the suspect’s direct approach towards Araujo’s booth in the video.
John Monagle, a Brockton resident, voiced his shock at the incident, saying, “I mean, you bring a child out to dinner, and you don’t think something like that is gonna happen. I’ve never felt unsafe here.”
The Brockton Police Department is actively working on the case and encourages anyone with relevant information to reach out at 508-941-0200.
