Gunshot victim found at shopping center

Authorities in California responded to a shooting incident at the Collection shopping center in Oxnard’s Riverpark community on Friday night. A 15-year-old male was discovered with a gunshot wound in his lower leg. Although the injury was not life-threatening, the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.

The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. on Friday in the 2700 block of Riverpark Boulevard. Oxnard Police Department officers, along with firefighters and ambulance personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene. The victim was found on the first floor of a parking structure behind the Cinemark Century Riverpark movie theater. Police Sergeant John McBride confirmed that the shooting took place between the theater and the parking structure.

As of 10:20 p.m., several individuals had been detained, but no arrests had been made. The investigation is ongoing, and it appears to involve juveniles, according to Sgt. McBride. Unfortunately, no further details regarding potential suspects or the circumstances leading up to the gunfire were provided in the late-night news release. Additionally, no additional information was available on Saturday morning.

The Oxnard Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident speak with investigators by coming forward.

This incident marks the second time this week that the north Oxnard shopping center has experienced a significant response from law enforcement. On Tuesday night, the movie theater was evacuated when a 62-year-old man reportedly brandished a stun gun and caused a disturbance during a showing of “Oppenheimer.” Fortunately, there were no injuries that were reported. The suspect was subsequently arrested.
