ST. LOUIS, MO – In a distressing incident Monday night, a domestic dispute led to a 74-year-old man allegedly shooting his granddaughter during an argument in South St. Louis. The tragic event unfolded around 11 p.m. on the 4600 block of South Broadway, leaving neighborhood residents stunned.
The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was quickly transported to the hospital. She was in critical condition after suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities identified the suspect as Pierre Irving, who has been charged with several counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action related to the shooting.
According to police statements, Irving shared an apartment with the victims, situated in River Bluff Manor. The conflict reportedly erupted over Irving’s reluctance to maintain cleanliness in the living space, exacerbated by alcohol consumption.
During the heated exchange, Irving allegedly retrieved a firearm and discharged it, targeting both his granddaughter and her mother. Fortunately, the mother escaped unharmed, but the granddaughter was critically injured with the bullet still lodged in her head.
Surveillance from a Ring doorbell camera captured Irving handing his gun to a neighbor following the shooting, which aided police in the investigation. The unfolding scene, complete with emergency lights and sirens, drew the attention of nearby residents.
Robert Green, a neighbor living opposite the River Bluff complex, recounted seeing the flashing police lights in the area. Green expressed disbelief that familial ties could unravel with such violence.
Irving is now in police custody and is being held without bond as legal proceedings continue. The case remains under intense scrutiny, highlighting the devastating impact domestic disputes can inflict on family units.
