DALLAS, TX – A routine patrol turned into a dramatic confrontation on Friday night in downtown Dallas, resulting in injuries to four police officers and the arrest of five young suspects. The incident unfolded near the West End DART station when officers identified a robbery suspect among a group of young men.
The suspect, 19-year-old Kendrick Braxton, was recognized by an officer from surveillance footage tied to a robbery earlier that week. On April 28, around 1 p.m., Braxton allegedly robbed a convenience store at gunpoint at the intersection of Live Oak Street and Liberty Street, escaping with $400 in cash.
When officers approached Braxton and his companions, all aged 19 or younger, the situation quickly escalated. As the suspects attempted to flee, Braxton was tackled to the ground. A search of his backpack revealed a stolen pistol, masks, gloves, and cash.
During the ensuing chase, 18-year-old Joseph Session managed to leap over a wall but was soon apprehended. In the process, Session reportedly punched a DART police sergeant in the face. A BB gun was later discovered in his possession.
The confrontation left two Dallas police officers and two DART officers injured. One Dallas officer required hospital treatment, while the others sustained minor injuries.
Authorities arrested all five suspects, including Braxton and Session, along with 17-year-olds Martez Robinson, Arthur Alexander, and Jalen Matthis. The arrests brought a swift conclusion to a tense evening in the heart of the city.
The East Dallas store owner, who was robbed earlier in the week, recounted that Braxton had visited the day before the theft but was unharmed during the robbery. The incident highlights the risks officers face daily and the swift actions taken to ensure public safety.
