BIRMINGHAM, AL – A Saturday night out in Birmingham’s Five Points South district turned deadly, leaving four people dead and at least 21 injured in a mass shooting that has left the community reeling. The attack occurred just after 11 p.m. in the bustling 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue.
Witnesses reported chaos as shots rang out near a popular hookah and cigar lounge. Police arrived promptly and discovered multiple victims lying on the street. Three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, and another died later at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital.
The motive and method of the attack remain unclear. Birmingham police are uncertain if the shooters were on foot or if the attack was a drive-by. What is clear, however, is that multiple shooters opened fire on the crowd, unleashing a barrage of bullets.
“We believe that multiple shooters fired multiple shots at a group of people in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue,” a Birmingham police officer stated. “We have no suspects in custody and are imploring the public for any information that could assist in our investigation.”
The Birmingham Police Department has enlisted the help of the ATF and FBI as they work to track down those responsible. “We are determined to uncover and bring to justice the individuals behind this horrific act,” the officer emphasized.
Authorities suspect that the firearms used may have been modified into fully automatic weapons. They are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage to contact Crimestoppers immediately.
