Tim and Tiffany McPherson were flown to Nashville after the TNT Tacos fire.
HUNTINGDON, TN — A Carroll County couple is recovering in Nashville after their TNT Tacos food truck exploded and burned Thursday morning in a Tractor Supply Co. parking lot on East Main Street in Huntingdon.
Tim and Tiffany McPherson, the owners of the food truck, suffered second- and third-degree burns in the June 4 fire. The blast destroyed the truck and left the couple facing surgeries and a long hospital stay. Local responders, witnesses and family members have described the fire as sudden, intense and serious, with both victims escaping from the burning truck before being flown for treatment.
Dispatchers sent the Huntingdon Fire Department to the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday after a report of a trailer fire. When firefighters arrived, the TNT Tacos truck was fully engulfed. Crews worked to put out the fire while Baptist EMS treated the McPhersons at the scene. Witnesses said they saw the couple get out of the truck while it was still burning. Their daughter, Jada Pastrana, later said, “It is truly a miracle and blessing they’re both alive.”
Responders cleared the parking lot so two medical helicopters could land. Tim and Tiffany McPherson were flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Family members said both were alert and talking after the explosion, but they were expected to remain hospitalized for several months. Tiffany McPherson later posted that she and her husband were grateful for the people who stopped to help. “Thank you for all the love and we are most grateful for everyone who stopped to help us,” she wrote.
The exact cause remained under investigation, though Tiffany McPherson’s father said the fire was believed to have started after a propane leak ignited. Officials had not announced a final cause as of Monday. The food truck was described as a total loss, with photos from the scene showing heavy fire damage and smoke rising above the area. Huntingdon Fire Department, Carroll County Fire, Carroll County Emergency Management Agency, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Baptist EMS and Air Evac Lifeteam responded.
The explosion struck a small local business that served residents around Huntingdon, the Carroll County seat in West Tennessee. TNT Tacos had been parked in a busy commercial area on East Main Street when the fire began. No other injuries were reported in the available accounts. The truck’s destruction also left the family without the business equipment tied to its food service work, adding financial pressure as the McPhersons begin medical treatment and recovery.
Pastrana created an online fundraiser to help cover medical bills and other costs while her parents are hospitalized. Local reports said both McPhersons were scheduled for surgery Friday, June 5. The case is expected to move through a fire review as officials work to determine the source of the explosion and whether propane equipment, a fuel line or another part of the truck’s system failed. No charges or enforcement actions had been announced.
Community reaction spread quickly after the fire, with family members and local residents sharing updates on the couple’s condition. The scene drew a large emergency response as firefighters battled flames and medical crews prepared the landing area for helicopters. Images from the parking lot showed a burned-out trailer, emergency vehicles and flight crews assisting at the scene. The McPhersons’ family has said the couple’s recovery will take time, but early updates said both survived and were able to speak after the blast.
The McPhersons remained hospitalized in Nashville after the Thursday, June 4, explosion. Investigators had not released a final cause, and the next major step is the couple’s continued treatment and recovery while fire officials review what happened.
