Flight attendant discovered dead in hotel room with sock in her mouth

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 66-year-old flight attendant from Las Vegas, employed by American Airlines, was discovered deceased in her hotel room at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott on Monday. The discovery was made by hotel cleaning staff two days after her scheduled check-out date. The woman was found unresponsive with a sock in her mouth, and was pronounced dead at approximately 10:40 p.m.

According to police sources, there were no indications of forced entry or struggle in the room, and no weapons were discovered on the premises. Prescription bottles, all sealed, were found in the room, leading investigators to note that the woman was on multiple medications. An autopsy has been ordered to investigate further, and authorities are still awaiting the results.

The cause of death remains undetermined, with Chief Inspector Scott Small stating that the woman “suffered a sudden death.” The identity of the woman has not been released to the public, as autopsy results are still pending as of early Wednesday.

Inspector Small has labeled the death as “suspicious,” and the case is currently under investigation by the Homicide Detectives Division of the Philadelphia Police Department. The department has yet to respond to requests for comment.

This incident follows a similar occurrence in June, when another American Airlines flight attendant, Carol Wright, collapsed mid-flight during an international journey back to the U.S. Wright, a 38-year veteran with the airline, collapsed on a flight from Venice to Philadelphia. The flight was diverted to Dublin, Ireland, where despite the crew’s best efforts, Wright was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
