LOS ANGELES, CA – A car crash in the Angeles National Forest on Tuesday morning left three people injured, with one victim in critical condition. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Angeles Forest Highway, near Mile Marker 12 and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road.
Authorities say the crash involved two vehicles, one of which veered into a hillside and caught fire. Quick response from the U.S. Forest Service ensured that the flames were extinguished swiftly, preventing further damage to the surrounding area.
California Highway Patrol reported that the vehicles involved were allegedly racing when the accident happened. The high-speed maneuvers resulted in the collision, which led to the fiery wreck of one car. The other vehicle came to a stop by the roadside.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and paramedics transported the critically injured individual to a nearby hospital. The other two injured parties were also hospitalized, with their conditions reported as stable.
As investigators work to piece together the events leading up to the crash, the Angeles Forest Highway remains closed in both directions. This closure is expected to persist until authorities complete their on-site investigation.
The accident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the potential consequences of street racing, especially on winding roads such as those found in the Angeles National Forest.
Local authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, emphasizing that the safety of all road users depends on responsible driving behavior.
The incident has sparked discussions on the need for increased surveillance and stricter enforcement of traffic laws in remote areas prone to such dangerous activities.
