FBI raids the Oakland Mayor’s house

OAKLAND, Calif. – Federal agents conducted a raid early Thursday at a residence tied to Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, part of a broader California investigation that also targeted at least two other properties, according to officials.

Agents from the FBI were seen removing boxes from the four-bedroom house at 80 Maiden Lane, which property records link to Mayor Thao. Inquiries directed to Thao’s office were referred to the FBI, which confirmed the operation but did not provide further details.

In addition to the mayor’s home, agents executed searches at two other properties located approximately three miles south. These properties are owned by members of the Duong family, who are influential in local politics and own the recycling company Cal Waste Solutions. The company has previously been scrutinized for its campaign contributions to Thao and other city officials.

One of the targeted properties belongs to Andy Duong, while the other is associated with David and Linda Duong, according to records. Attempts to reach Cal Waste Solutions and the Duong family for comments were unsuccessful.

Mayor Thao, 38, is currently facing a recall election less than two years into her term. The city clerk’s office recently confirmed that the recall effort had gathered enough verified signatures to be placed on the ballot this November.

Since taking office in January 2023, Thao has grappled with rising crime rates and budgetary issues, adding to the challenges of her administration.
