Police said a vendor was struck by a vehicle after a dispute with two customers at the County Line Trade Center.
WARREN, MI — A flea market vendor described by a friend as a father of five died after being struck by a vehicle following a dispute with two customers at the County Line Trade Center in Warren, police said.
Warren police responded Saturday afternoon to the flea market on Dequindre Road near 8 Mile Road after an incident involving the vendor and two customers. Police said a dispute occurred before the vendor was struck by a vehicle outside the market. The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
Two people were taken into custody without incident, according to police. Authorities had not publicly identified the victim or the two people in custody as of Sunday, and police had not announced criminal charges. The investigation remained active.
Police have released few details about what led to the dispute. FOX 2 Detroit reported that authorities had not immediately established or disclosed the reason for the confrontation. Investigators also had not publicly detailed the sequence of events immediately before the vendor was struck.
Leo Tufek, who told CBS News Detroit that he was a friend of the vendor, said the dispute began over a weed wacker. That account came from Tufek and had not been publicly confirmed by police. Tufek also said his friend had five children.
“It’s just sad. They’re gonna need help in the long run,” Tufek told CBS News Detroit on Sunday.
The incident happened at the County Line Trade Center in the 20900 block of Dequindre Road. Police described the victim as a vendor at the flea market. Officials had not released his name, age or other identifying information in the initial reports.
Authorities also had not publicly identified the two customers taken into custody or said whether either person was believed to have been driving the vehicle. No motive beyond the reported dispute had been established publicly, and police had not announced what charges, if any, could result from the investigation.
The Warren Police Department continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the vendor’s death. Additional information, including the victim’s identity and any possible charging decisions, had not been released as of the latest reports.
