HOUSTON, TX – In a startling turn of events, Harris County prosecutors have revealed that a recent shooting on the Grand Parkway was not a case of road rage, but a calculated murder-for-hire plot. Court documents have shed light on a scheme where a man allegedly enlisted his stepson as the getaway driver in a failed assassination attempt.
The investigation took a dramatic twist when the younger suspect confessed to law enforcement, admitting that he and his stepfather meticulously tracked their intended victim for days before launching their attack. Both suspects, Ricardo Antonio Obando and Xavier Matthew Rosas, faced a judge clad in prison attire, charged with attempted capital murder.
The courtroom revelations pointed to an elaborate plan, with Obando and Rosas allegedly accepting payment to carry out the murder. Their target, a 40-year-old man, was ambushed during his morning commute on February 4th along State Highway 99. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, the victim managed to pull over and call for help, potentially saving his own life.
Rosas disclosed to investigators that his stepfather was contracted for the assassination, and he received $300 to drive the getaway vehicle. At the time of his arrest, Rosas was found with $220, including two crisp $100 bills, which he claimed were remnants of his payment for the crime.
Surveillance footage from inside and outside the victim’s vehicle played a crucial role in apprehending the suspects. The extensive review of various camera feeds enabled officers to track down the vehicle used in the attack.
As the investigation continues, the motive behind this chilling plot remains a mystery. Prosecutors and investigators have refrained from divulging any potential reasons for the attempted murder, leaving many questions unanswered.
While the victim is reportedly on the path to recovery, concerns about his safety persist, especially with the individual who orchestrated the hit still at large. The community remains on edge as authorities work diligently to piece together the remaining parts of this intricate puzzle.
