Ex-Arizona cop is charged with manslaughter for shooting wheelchair-bound ‘shoplifter’, 61, NINE TIMES and killing him outside Lowes store after claiming victim had a knife -Daily Mail
Ryan Remington, 32, was charged with ‘recklessly causing the death’ of Richard Lee Richards, 61, after he was shot nine times by Remington after he allegedly flashed a knife at a store employee.
Richards was allegedly stealing a toolbox from Walmart and brandishing a knife at an employee who asked for his receipt. He was shot outside of a Lowe’s after crossing the shared parking lot with Walmart.
Security footage shows Remington following Richards’ chair as Richards attempts to drive his chair into Lowe’s, located across the street from Walmart.
The bodycam footage shows Richards’ body jerking slightly and falling forward in his seat as the bullets enter his back. Blood and loose cigarettes can be seen at his motionless feet.
The employee ran for her medical kit as Remington shot Richards, who went limp and was later pronounced dead.
The officer will now face trial for the shooting. He did not testify before the grand jury to present any self-defense arguments.
Remington, a four-year veteran of the department, was fired after the shooting. The chief said he was ‘deeply disturbed and troubled’ by the ex-cop’s response.
