4 dead, including 2 children, after suspected drunk driver crashes into golf cart in Texas – ABC News
Police responded to a major accident at about 11:35 p.m. Saturday that involved a golf cart, a black Hyundai SUV, and a Dodge pickup truck. The driver of the black Hyundai sustained minor injuries and was later arrested and charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter.
A golf cart was hit when a man driving an SUV ran a stop sign, police said. The 45-year-old driver man was drunk while he was driving, and he is being held on a $400,000 bond.
When the SUV ran through the stop sign, it hit a pickup truck. That truck then struck a golf cart full of passengers. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
Six people were aboard the golf cart that was involved in this accident.
The driver of the golf cart, a woman and two children, died at the scene. Four were found dead in total. In addition, two other passengers, an adult and a child, remained in critical condition at a medical branch hospital.
Galveston Mayor Craig Brown said golf carts have become a popular mode of transportation on the island resort area. He said the city is considering new ordinances to make operating golf carts safer.
