CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating two separate homicides that occurred over the weekend, leaving the community on edge. Officers are actively searching for suspects following these violent incidents.
On Sunday, Life Morris, a local resident, was returning home from church when gunfire erupted, changing the course of his afternoon. “I heard a couple of gunshots,” Morris recounted. The police later identified that two men were fatally shot after an altercation escalated in the front yard of a house in North Charlotte.
Morris, who is involved with the organization We Are One Charlotte, which focuses on violence prevention and youth mentorship, expressed his sorrow over the incident. “It makes my heart hurt. We shouldn’t be doing this to one another,” he said.
Investigators believe the individuals involved in the shooting knew the victims and have since fled the scene. Authorities have confirmed this was an isolated incident, but no arrests have been made yet.
The community remains concerned about the escalating violence. Police urge residents to avoid situations that appear to be escalating, whether they are directly involved or simply nearby.
In another tragic event over the weekend, a teenage girl was also shot and killed in Charlotte. These incidents add to the growing number of homicide cases in the area.
Major Ryan Kendall of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department assured the public that there are enough investigators to handle the recent surge in homicide cases. “I am confident that they will give this and every case the 100% attention they deserve,” Kendall stated.
