Dog attack on man prompts deputy shooting

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – A Broward County Sheriff’s deputy was compelled to discharge their weapon at a dog after responding to a violent incident involving several dogs attacking a man. The altercation unfolded on Tuesday morning on Northwest 35th Avenue, sparking fear among local residents.

Witnesses reported that the dogs, believed to be mistreated, have previously posed a threat in the neighborhood. One resident, Garfield Gordon, recounted a near encounter with the aggressive canines, underscoring the persistent danger they represented.

The attack left a man with multiple bite wounds before one of the dogs allegedly turned its aggression toward a responding deputy. Faced with an imminent threat, the deputy resorted to using their firearm.

Broward County Animal Care arrived on the scene shortly after, taking control of the situation. Authorities confirmed that three dogs were involved, with two being euthanized following the incident.

Residents have voiced longstanding concerns about loose dogs in the area, fearing for their safety and that of their children. Despite previous warnings to the dog owner, no action was taken, leading to heightened anxiety among locals.

Efforts to speak with the dog owner about the incident were met with evasion. Observers noted a dozen cats on the property, adding to concerns about the welfare of animals under the owner’s care.

As the investigation continues, the condition of the hospitalized victim remains unclear. Authorities are working to provide updates as they become available.

The incident has reignited discussions on responsible pet ownership and community safety, with residents demanding accountability and preventive measures.
