Dispensary owner shot seven times

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – A San Francisco cannabis dispensary owner, who survived a harrowing shooting last week, is now recovering and reflecting on the event that nearly claimed his life. Martin Olive, owner of the Vapor Room, was shot seven times, including twice in the face, but miraculously made it out alive thanks to the quick actions of neighbors and first responders.

The shooting unfolded in the city’s Mission District, just outside Olive’s business. The scene was marked by police tape and shell casings, serving as stark reminders of the violence he endured. “It was the most agonizing experience I’ve ever gone through,” Olive recounted, describing the surreal moment when 34-year-old Ezra Frech Chong approached him on an e-bike, brandished a firearm, and started shooting.

Initially, Olive thought it might be a prank. However, reality struck when Chong pulled the trigger multiple times, targeting Olive’s face and body. “The first shot felt like a searing cannonball hitting my face,” Olive said, recalling how each subsequent bullet ignited a new wave of pain, leaving him in disbelief and questioning why he had been targeted.

Security footage later revealed Chong walking past Olive and into a building where both had separate connections, yet Olive insists he had never seen Chong before. As he lay injured, passersby and medical teams rushed to his aid, offering a lifeline amidst the chaos.

The situation escalated into a tense standoff between Chong and police, which was captured on officers’ body cameras. The standoff ended with Chong being fatally shot after he opened fire on law enforcement. A subsequent search of Chong’s apartment uncovered a cache of weapons and ammunition, raising further questions about his intentions.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Olive expressed concern over Chong’s arsenal. “With all those weapons, I can’t help but think he had more sinister plans,” Olive speculated. As the San Francisco Police Department continues its investigation, Olive hopes to gain insight into Chong’s motives.

In the meantime, Olive focuses on his recovery, acknowledging that the road to healing will be long and challenging. He remains grateful for the support from the community and emergency responders who played a crucial role in saving his life.
