Derek Chauvin reportedly stabbed in federal prison

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – In a recent development, Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer found guilty of George Floyd’s murder, was stabbed in prison. Minnesota’s Attorney General, Keith Ellison, expressed his dismay over the incident, emphasizing that every convict, regardless of their crime, deserves to serve their sentence without fear of violence or retaliation.

Ellison’s spokesman, Brian Evans, relayed the Attorney General’s sentiments, stating that Ellison was disheartened upon hearing the news of Chauvin’s attack. Ellison insists that the safety of all convicts should be a priority, regardless of their crimes.

The Associated Press reported that the stabbing occurred in a federal prison on Friday, with Chauvin being the target of a fellow inmate’s violence. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that the incident did not result in any other inmates or staff members being harmed.

After the attack, prison employees intervened, providing Chauvin with immediate life-saving care and alerting the FBI. An insider confirmed that the incident occurred at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona.

The Bureau of Prisons acknowledged that the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Friday. While they confirmed that an inmate received life-saving measures, they did not explicitly state that the inmate was Chauvin.

This incident marks the second significant occurrence at the prison within a year. In November 2022, an inmate attempted to shoot a visitor in the head at the prison’s low-security camp, but the weapon misfired.

Chauvin’s 2020 conviction for Floyd’s murder sparked nationwide protests, some of which escalated into violence.
