HARBOR ISLAND, BAHAMAS – The tragic death of Paige Bell, a 20-year-old South African, has sent shockwaves through the tranquil community of Harbor Island. Bell, who was living her dream working on luxury yachts, was found dead in the engine room of the superyacht “Far From It” on July 3, 2025.
Originally from Johannesburg, Bell moved to Durban with her family before pursuing her aspirations at sea. She had been working on yachts in the Bahamas, a profession that offered both adventure and financial opportunity due to favorable exchange rates with the South African rand.
Described by friends and family as a “golden girl” with an infectious spirit, Bell was about to celebrate her 21st birthday and was eagerly anticipating reuniting with her family. Her sudden death has left her loved ones devastated.
Authorities were alerted when Bell failed to appear for her shift, leading to a search of the yacht. Her body was discovered with multiple stab wounds and signs of a possible sexual assault, though investigations are ongoing.
A 39-year-old Mexican national, an engineer on the yacht, was found nearby with severe arm injuries and has been charged with her murder. He appeared in court on July 9 but was not required to enter a plea. His next court date is set for November 20, 2025.
The Bell family, grappling with the immense loss and financial burden of repatriating Paige’s body, has received support from her former colleagues. A GoFundMe campaign, initiated by crew members from the yacht “Sweet Emotion,” has raised significant funds to assist them.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Bell’s death. Meanwhile, the community, rocked by the incident, mourns the loss of a vibrant young woman with a promising future.
In honor of Paige, her mother has invited people to celebrate her life with red velvet cake, her favorite, on what would have been her 21st birthday. The gesture serves as a poignant reminder of a life taken too soon.
As the investigation unfolds, Bell’s family and friends remain united in their quest for justice, determined to ensure her light continues to shine despite the darkness of her loss.
