Delivery driver shot multiple times

MESQUITE, TX – Residents of a quiet neighborhood were jolted awake by the sound of gunfire early Sunday morning, as a food delivery driver was shot multiple times. Witnesses reported hearing six to eight gunshots followed by a car horn, prompting them to rush outside.

Upon arrival, they found the victim, a DoorDash driver, leaning against a car, shouting that he had been shot five times. Robert McNair, one of the neighbors, recounted the chaotic scene, noting the driver’s desperate cries for help.

The incident occurred on Birch Bend, where the driver had been delivering food. The household expecting the delivery confirmed they were waiting for their order when the shooting happened. Mesquite police have remained tight-lipped about the investigation, only confirming the driver was shot and the suspect fled before officers arrived.

Questions linger as detectives work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect lived nearby, if the incident was an attempted robbery, or if a confrontation led to the violence.

Security footage from a nearby home captured the victim’s vehicle being towed away, now part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation. Neighbors remain on edge, grappling with unanswered questions about the night’s events.

One resident expressed their concern and hope for the driver’s recovery, stating they have been praying for his well-being. Despite repeated inquiries, police have provided no further details, maintaining that the delivery driver is recovering.

Efforts to speak with occupants of the home expecting the delivery were met with silence. A woman inside the residence declined to provide information, claiming ignorance of the situation.

As the investigation continues, the community is left to speculate about the motives and circumstances that led to the violent encounter.
