SALEM, OR – A tragic shooting event in a Salem park has left one person dead and two others injured. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon near Bush’s Pasture Park, according to Salem Police Department.
On arrival at the scene around 1:45 p.m., police officers found three male victims suffering from gunshot injuries. One of the victims had lost his life on the scene, while the two survivors, both juveniles, were taken to a local hospital. The conditions of the two injured individuals have not been disclosed as of now.
In response to the shooting, a lockdown was enforced at South Salem High School and other nearby schools, as well as the hospital treating the injured, as reported by the Statesman Journal.
Giving families an update on the situation, Principal Tara Romina of South Salem assured that there was not an active shooter on the school campus at any point during the incident. As investigations continue, a portion of the park remains closed while authorities search for the suspect.
Located close to downtown Salem, the expansive Bush’s Pasture Park offers residents a space for various outdoor activities and houses several local attractions, like a museum and an official Soap Box Derby track.
