LAS VEGAS, NV – A sequence of violent incidents, including shootings, vehicle thefts, and police pursuits, took place in Southwestern Las Vegas Valley on Wednesday morning. According to authorities, the suspect involved in these chaotic events was found deceased by the end.
The initial alarm from law enforcement officers rang around 3:46 a.m., responding to a shooting at Placid and Maulding’s intersection, reported Capt. Joshua Martinez of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. Members of the force heard the shooting at the scene with subsequent multiple hits on the patrol vehicle. The shot vehicle was subsequently stolen by the suspect, instigating a police pursuit that ended at S. Durango Drive, where he seized another vehicle in a carjacking.
The suspect continued his flight in the stolen car, leading the officers to the location at Blue Diamond Road. There, the suspect committed another carjacking incident, as per Capt. Martinez. One officer who witnessed the event opened gunfire, yet the chase continued with the suspect fleeing in a newly stolen vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was eventually located at Windmill and Durango by Nevada State Police. On sighting another officer from Metro Police, the suspect unleashed a round of gunfire. In response, the officers opened fire at the car, hitting it several times.
The pursuit saga concluded at Durango and Agate, where the suspect’s vehicle was incapacitated. When the suspect refused to comply with police orders, LVMPD’s SWAT and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. Upon reaching the vehicle, SWAT found the suspect dead.
Capt. Martinez confirmed that none of the police officers were injured during the incident. Information about the victims of the carjackings or any injuries related to the crimes was not disclosed.
The names of officers who fired shots are expected to be released in 48 hours, per the police department’s standard protocol. A detailed briefing from the Metro Police about the incident will follow in the subsequent days.
