SPRING, TX – A 10-year-old girl is in critical condition following a shooting identified by authorities as a murder-suicide attempt. The incident took place on May 30 at an apartment complex in Spring, Texas, around 5 p.m. local time, the Harris County Texas Sheriff’s Office reported.
The scene involved a 39-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old girl whose identities are yet to be confirmed. According to reports, the man was in a relationship with the woman, who is the mother of the girl.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that all three individuals had suffered gunshot wounds. The young girl had a shot in the abdomen and, despite her injury, managed to contact her grandmother for aid, who then dialed 911.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement found the man dead and the woman unresponsive. The woman received medical treatment but sadly succumbed to her injuries on the scene. Meanwhile, the girl was found in a life-threatening state and was quickly airlifted by a Life Flight helicopter to a nearby hospital for surgery.
So far, the investigation suggests that the shooting was sparked by a fight between the man and the woman. During the altercation, the girl was caught in the crossfire. Furthermore, the man was identified as the main suspect, with only one firearm found at the scene of the incident.
The couple was listed as joint tenants on the apartment’s lease, and investigations will determine if any prior incidents took place at the same location. In addition to the three individuals involved, no one else was injured in the episode.
