INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A troubling instance of child abuse has prompted police intervention in Indianapolis, where they were called to a High Street residence earlier this month. The report details a video shown to the responding officer by two women who were awaiting him in a parking lot nearby. The incident in question involved a 17-year-old repeatedly setting her own child’s hand on fire with a lighter, aided by another girl who sprayed perfume to fuel the flames.
Kristina Korobov, the lead attorney for the Zero Abuse Project, lamented that parents filming themselves abusing their children is becoming increasingly common. She pointed out that such videos merely serve to immortalize the unacceptable conduct. The officer’s report also included an alarming habit of the teenager- she would allegedly lock the child in a room while she went out, leaving the child unattended.
In an even more disturbing development, the child was allegedly subjected to inappropriate exposure, with the teenager accused of holding a pillow over the child’s face while she engaged in sexual activities within the same bed. Korobov emphasized the criminality of such acts, naming it “vicarious sexual gratification,” a punishable offense that incorporates sexual conduct in a child’s presence.
The teenager claimed that setting her child’s hand on fire was merely intended for humor. Nevertheless, the prosecution has a different view and seeks that she be tried as an adult. If tried within juvenile court, the charges presented could be expunged, which Korobov warns, could lead to the individual applying for jobs without knowledge of the past.
A hearing set for June will determine whether the teenager will stand trial as an adult. Communication efforts with the Muncie Police received no response. The affected child, as per the police report, has now been placed with a distant relative.
