OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A man from Oklahoma, along with his girlfriend, have been implicated in the brutal murder of the woman’s relative, according to federal authorities. The victim was reportedly killed with a brick before her body was discarded in a wildlife refuge.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Oklahoma revealed that Tevin Terrell Semien, 29, and Nicole Leigh Logsdon, 24, have been indicted for the murder of 68-year-old Karon “Dinkers” Conneywerdy Smith, which took place in May 2023. Semien confessed to authorities that he agreed to kill Smith at the behest of his girlfriend, following a disagreement between Logsdon and Smith.
According to the official statement, Semien attacked Smith at her home, killed her with a brick, placed her body in the trunk of her car, and then disposed of it in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Smith, a member of the Comanche Nation, was found dead in the refuge on May 17, 2023.
Smith’s home bore signs of a violent struggle, with blood found in several areas. Her vehicle was also missing, leading investigators to suspect foul play. On May 21, Texas law enforcement spotted the missing vehicle and attempted to pull it over. However, Semien and Logsdon fled, leading to a high-speed chase that ended when they crashed into a lake.
Both Semien and Logsdon were apprehended after attempting to escape on foot. Semien initially denied involvement in Smith’s murder but later confessed to the crime, admitting that Logsdon was both his girlfriend and a relative of Smith.
Semien has since pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm due to a previous felony conviction. Logsdon, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to murder and admitted to aiding Semien in evading arrest and prosecution. If convicted, Semien could face life in federal prison, while Logsdon could receive a 15-year sentence.
