Concealed carry holder intervenes in Chicago drive-by shooting

CHICAGO, IL – A drive-by shooting in Chicago took an unexpected turn when a concealed carry holder intervened, according to eyewitness accounts. The incident, which followed a car crash, unfolded so rapidly that bystanders were left in a state of shock.

Lorenzo Hernandez, a witness, detailed the frightening experience, noting the sudden onset of gunfire and the inherent unpredictability of life in Chicago. The shooting occurred on the city’s Southwest Side, where police were called to the scene around 2 p.m.

Hernandez described a collision involving four vehicles and a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus near the intersection of 47th and Archer. After the crash, passengers exited the bus and were subsequently fired upon by an individual in a white Dodge Durango.

A 55-year-old male CTA bus supervisor was among those hit during the shooting. He had arrived at the scene due to the crash and was injured by the gunfire. Hernandez, who was nearby in his SUV, was also in the shooter’s line of fire, causing him to fear for the safety of a tow truck driver in the vicinity.

However, the tow truck driver, a concealed carry permit holder, fired back at the suspect. The suspect, who remains unidentified, fled the scene before police could apprehend him. Police later confirmed that a concealed carry permit holder had returned fire.

The tow truck driver explained that he had been targeted by the shooter before he retaliated. A bullet was found lodged in Hernandez’s SUV, which he believes saved his life. The tow truck driver thanked Hernandez, stating that the SUV had protected him from the gunfire.

The injured CTA bus supervisor was taken to a local hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his thigh. The Chicago Police Department has reported no updates on the case, and the investigation continues.
