Colombian nationals caught at brazen jewlery store heist

LODI, CA – In a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood thriller, a daring heist unfolded in the small town of Lodi, where thieves cut through a wall to access a pawn shop’s jewelry store. The incident, which took place under the cloak of darkness, involved a sophisticated criminal operation linked to a Colombian theft ring with potential cartel connections.

The robbery began early Thursday morning when the store’s internet was abruptly severed. This disruption also affected a neighboring business, raising suspicions. Notably, the store’s security system quickly alerted authorities, allowing Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies to respond swiftly.

Officers detained three suspects on-site, while a fourth, who attempted to hide in a ventilation duct, was coaxed out by the SWAT team using gas. All four individuals are now in custody and undergoing questioning.

Investigators revealed that the suspects gained entry by cutting through a wall from an adjacent business. Interestingly, two of the suspects have backgrounds in construction and demolition, while another is an alarm specialist. The fourth suspect reportedly owns a jewelry store in Colombia and may have ties to criminal organizations.

This attempted theft is part of a broader pattern of crimes attributed to the group, which has been linked to previous break-ins in Sacramento, Stockton, and the Bay Area. A recent incident in Sacramento County saw burglars abscond with over $1 million in merchandise, highlighting the crew’s sophisticated methods.

Fortunately, the Lodi heist ended without any loss of valuables, thanks to the quick action of law enforcement. However, authorities caution that this may be just the beginning of uncovering a more extensive network. They plan to release mugshots of the suspects as part of a larger investigation in collaboration with other agencies across the state and country.

The swift arrests have provided a sense of relief in the community, but the investigation continues as authorities aim to dismantle the criminal network.
