Child driver involved in deadly car crash, 12-year-old passenger dies

DALLAS, TX – A single-car crash resulting in one fatality and three injuries is currently under investigation by the Dallas Police Department. The driver of the vehicle was a 12-year-old child.

On Friday, community members gathered at the accident site in southeast Dallas to mourn the loss and support each other. Balloons, flowers, and candles marked the fatal spot, paying tribute to another 12-year-old child who didn’t survive the crash.

Dispatchers sent police officers to the scene of a single-car accident on the 15000 block of Lasater Road at around 9 a.m. Thursday. The accident site showed that an SUV had veered off the roadway and run into a tree.

The officers found four children aged between 11 and 12 in the vehicle, one of whom succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The rest, including the 12-year-old driver, were rushed to the hospital where they are expected to make a recovery.

“It’s very impacting for the whole community really because they used to come out to our house,” noted Carillo.

As the Dallas Police Department continues their investigation, several critical questions persist. They include inquiries about how the young child gained access to the SUV, whose vehicle it was, and what charges, if any, may arise from the incident. The Police Department, citing the ongoing investigation, has yet to respond.
