Car stolen at gunpoint by 8-year-old boy who led police in a chase

In a shocking incident in Alabama, an 8-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly carjacking an adult at gunpoint and then leading authorities on a chase. The young boy, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly committed the crime on West Fairview Avenue in Montgomery. The incident unfolded around 11 a.m., leaving the community in disbelief.

According to Major Saba Coleman of the Montgomery Police Department, the child approached an adult and brandished a gun, demanding the keys to their vehicle. The terrified victim complied, and the boy drove off in the stolen car. When the police attempted to pull him over on East South Boulevard and Norman Bridge Road, he refused to stop, initiating a high-speed chase.

The pursuit came to a dramatic end when the 8-year-old crashed the stolen car into another vehicle at the intersection of West Fairview Avenue and South Court Street. Fortunately, there were no injuries that were reported from the collision. Law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended the young suspect at the scene. The recovered gun further solidified the seriousness of the situation.

The 8-year-old is currently being held at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility, facing charges of first-degree robbery, attempting to elude, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Witness “Snake” Knapp expressed his concern for the boy’s safety and the potential harm he could have caused to himself and others. He urged parents to be vigilant about knowing their children’s whereabouts and engaging in conversations about the consequences of such actions.

While the motive behind the 8-year-old’s actions remains unclear, this incident raises questions about the influences that would drive a child to carjacking. Authorities are investigating the shocking incident further to determine any underlying factors that may have contributed to the boy’s behavior.
