Bus crash kills 7 people, dozens more injured

WARREN COUNTY, MS – A fatal bus crash that claimed the lives of seven people, including two young siblings, occurred in Warren County, Mississippi. Responding to the crash that happened around 12:40 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that dozens more were injured in the incident.

The bus, chartered by Regiomontanos Autobuses, was traveling westward on Interstate 20 when it unexpectedly swerved off the road and overturned. The cause leading to the bus veering off the interstate remains unclear.

Six victims were tragically declared fatalities at the crash site, while the remaining victim subsequently succumbed to their injuries at the Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg. In addition to the deaths, 37 other passengers were transported to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson for medical assistance for their unspecified injuries. The co-driver of the bus did not need hospitalization.

The identities of the victims are yet to be disclosed publicly, but Warren County coroner Doug Huskey verified that two of the deceased victims were siblings- a young boy aged six and a 16-year-old girl, both nationals of Guatemala. They were recognized by their mother. Huskey also suggested that the bus held additional passengers from the Central American nation.

The accident remains under investigation by both the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division, and there were no other vehicles involved in the devastating crash.
