Building collapses after deadly crash

BORING, OR – A devastating crash early Monday morning left the Timber Pub and Grub on Highway 212 in ruins, marking the fourth time the building has been hit by a vehicle. Around 6 a.m., a car sped through an intersection, slamming into the pub, leaving the structure heavily damaged and the driver dead.

Surveillance footage vividly captured the moment of impact, which left the local community in disbelief. “I can’t believe the devastation,” one observer remarked, noting the significant damage and the impact on livelihoods. The pub’s owner confirmed one employee was inside at the time but fortunately escaped unharmed.

This incident follows a troubling pattern for the Timber Pub and Grub, which was also struck in 2023 when a truck crashed into it. The recurring accidents have left many questioning the safety of the area. “It’s unfortunate this keeps happening,” the owner lamented, expressing frustration over the lack of protective measures.

Just a day before, another nearby business experienced a similar tragedy. A vehicle crash resulted in the deaths of two occupants and injuries to those inside the building. These back-to-back incidents have amplified community concerns about traffic safety in the area.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) records show that from 2019 to 2024, there were 22 non-fatal crashes in the vicinity. Despite recent safety enhancements, the frequency of accidents suggests more might be needed.

“We inquired about barriers when we bought the building,” the pub owner said, frustrated by the lack of space for such safety measures. The proximity of the highway, shoulder, and sidewalk to the building complicates potential solutions.

ODOT is now re-evaluating the situation. “Two fatal crashes in two days are shocking and demand our attention,” an official stated, hinting at possible future traffic engineering interventions.
