Body found in search for missing swimmers

ANNA MARIA ISLAND, FL – Authorities have recovered the body of a man following an exhaustive search near Anna Maria Island. The operation began after witnesses reported two men struggling in the water. While one was rescued, the other remained missing until this morning.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard, and local police were involved in the search. Photos from the scene depict a large number of officials and volunteers searching near Bean Point Beach.

Kevin Wink, who observed the events, noted the unusual helicopter activity. It soon became clear that a serious search was underway. The Coast Guard confirmed that while beachgoers saved one man, 20-year-old Aditya Patel was not immediately found.

Initially thought to be a drill by some, including a visiting family from Pennsylvania, the gravity of the situation was soon realized as divers searched specific areas of the water.

Longboat Key Police eventually discovered the body about six feet underwater, roughly a mile offshore. Identification of the victim is pending, awaiting family members from abroad to confirm.

The incident has shocked both locals and visitors, highlighting the dangers of swimming in open waters. The community is now rallying to support the families involved during this difficult time.
