Arrest made in double murder of ‘American Idol’ producer and husband

LOS ANGELES, CA – Police in Los Angeles have taken a suspect into custody following the double homicide of Robin Kay, a prominent music supervisor for “American Idol,” and her husband, Thomas Duca. The couple was discovered dead in their home on Monday after a friend raised concerns about not hearing from them for several days.

Upon arriving at the residence around 2:30 p.m., officers found blood on the porch, leading them to the grim discovery inside. The LAPD reports that a neighbor’s tenant had observed an individual scaling the property’s fence the previous Thursday and alerted authorities. Despite a police response and aerial surveillance, officers found no immediate signs of a break-in at that time.

Surveillance footage later revealed that 22-year-old Raymond Bodarian entered the home through an unlocked door after climbing the fence. He reportedly spent about half an hour inside before Kay and Duca returned, at which point a violent confrontation occurred, resulting in the couple being fatally shot. Bodarian was arrested without incident on Tuesday.

At this stage, investigators believe the attack was random. Kay was well-regarded in the television music production industry, having dedicated over a decade to “American Idol.” In a 2019 interview, she expressed her passion for nurturing young talent and witnessing their growth on stage.

Former “American Idol” contestant Casey Abrams recalled Kay’s supportive nature, noting her encouragement and advocacy for the performers. The show’s spokesperson expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing Kay as a beloved and respected figure within the “Idol” community since 2009.

The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover a motive behind the tragic incident.
